Celebrity Edge: Cruising with design

Writer

Celebrity Edge, the new flagship of the Celebrity Cruises fleet, was created by a team of famous architects and designers for tastefully decorated and comfortable travels

“It is a ship that revolutionizes the standards of sea travel”, this is how Richard D. Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises defines Celebrity Edge, the new flagship of the Celebrity Cruises fleet. What are the reasons for so much enthusiasm? The answer is simple, Celebrity Edge was designed by world-renowned architects and designers including Scott Butler – Wilson Butler Architects, Tom Wright – WKK Architects, Kelly Hoppen – Kelly Hoppen Interiors, Jouin Manku and Patricia Urquiola, all facing their first assignment in the cruise ship design, to propose an innovative approach compared to tradition.

Urquiola was responsible for designing Eden, the spectacular lounge distributed over three decks that changes colors and settings as the day goes by. In the morning it is like a greenhouse where you can work out or taste a coffee; in the afternoon, it is animated by different performances, in the evening it finally turns into a space to enjoy the night life, especially at The Tree of Life restaurant, where guests can enjoy beautiful scenarios and taste delicious dishes. Eden features also a Library of Plants, a living wall where fresh ingredients and garnishes are hand-picked for artisanal cocktails, is also very impressive. Eden is not the only magical spot of the ship. Added to this is THE SPA, a 2000 sq.m wellness oasis, designed by Kelly Hoppen that offers 124 different treatments, The Theater space with four stages and three giant mobile screens, The Resort Deck, located on deck 14, which offers endless possibilities for leisure time, among which in the bar area two hot tubs elevated up in the air above the pool (2-stories high!), or the Rooftop Garden, designed by Tom Wright, where guests can choose to go to concerts and cinema under the stars, or live musical performances

All the staterooms, designed by Kelly Hoppen are luxurious and elegant, from the Infinite Verandas where the balcony becomes an integral part of the room thanks to an automatic opening mechanism, to the Iconic Suites, the most luxurious and spacious (230 square meters) of the Celebrity Cruises fleet, all the way to the Penthouse Suite and the Edge Villa, with windows on two floors, all real luxury residences. After its debut in the Caribbean, Celebrity Edge will arrive in May in the Mediterranean with departures from Italy and Spain.
